Both recreational and competitive fencers train together.
Classes start with a warm-up and stretching followed by
footwork (some classes are given ballet instruction to augment
training), hand work, technical work and finally bouting with
a cool down. Men and women train together in a spirit of
friendship and friendly competition.. The club provides basic
equipment to start with, however, fencers are expected to
puchase their own equipment as they become more proficient
in the sport. Competitive fencers must buy their own
competitive equipment and license. Both recreational and
competitive fencers must purchase a rec or competitive license
through the Ontario Fencing Association (OFA) at
http://www.fencingontario.ca/.
The license provides additional insurance coverage and
allows a fencer to participate in fencing programs or domestic
and international tournaments. Classes are capped at 10 to 12
students with two coaches. Minimum age for children is 8 years
although exceptions can be made. Clean indoor athletic footwear
is required. Track pants are preferred but loose fitting pants
will do. T-shirts are suggested. Personal information must
be supplied along with the completion of a waiver form which
is kept strictly confidential. Payment is required up front by
cheque or cash, and an installment program is also available on
request. Credit card payment may be made through our secondary
website
