Émile Bayard was born November 2nd, 1837 in Ferte-sous-Joarre (Seine-et-Marne), France and died 1891 in Cairo, Egypt. He is known for his paintings, portraits, decorative compositions and most of all, for his illustrations.
While the engraving entitled Un duel de femme, often referred to as Une affaire d'honneur, is well documented in art compendiums, the second engraving entitled La Réconciliation cannot be found documented. Another unique feature of the two reproduced prints is that a red Jerusalem cross can be found on both prints.
The reproduced prints are as faithful to the originals as possible. High quality acid free paper was used as the medium. Prints reproduced on a very light cream, or natural cover stock are more like the originals, and as such, a limited and numbered print run of 200 of each of the two prints was made. A second print run using Rolland white cover stock gives the prints a more modern look and is limited to 400 copies of each of the two prints.
Both prints are titled and measure 14 inches x 22 inches (46cm x 56cm). Each print comes with a numbered certificate. The print run of 200 is stamped in copper, while the print run of 400 is stamped in silver.
